Anton Heiller on his 100th Birthday

Heiller's vocal compositions with Tyrolean references – a workshop concert

For decades, Anton Heiller has profoundly influenced the Austrian church music and organ scene, whether as a professor of organ, counterpoint, and church composition at the Vienna Conservatory and teacher for a whole generation of organists, a pioneering interpreter on organ and harpsichord, a combative organ-building expert, or as a composer. Heiller was significantly responsible for the return of the traditional construction method with mechanical slider windchests instead of an electro-pneumatic action in Austrian organ building after World War II. In Tyrol, Heiller designed several new organs. Additionally, he wrote very demanding works for church musical performances in Tyrol, which will be performed in this workshop concert, showcasing Heiller's compositional mastery. Norbert Matsch, who initiated this homage to Anton Heiller for his 100th birthday and is taking the musical direction, was able to enlist the renowned Viennese organist Peter Planyavsky for this project, a student of Heiller and an expert on Heiller.
