Did you know that Andreas Hofer, as he is portrayed in the giant panorama, was not actually present at Bergisel? The panorama painting commissioned about 90 years after the struggles of the Tyroleans against the Bavarian-French troops suggests at first glance that the depicted scenes surrounding the so-called "Third Battle of Bergisel" from 1809 actually took place that way. However, in a critical examination, we will discover biased and clichéd representations as well as freely invented details that were politically motivated at the time and were intended to serve the motto "For God, Emperor, and Fatherland," but also for tourism promotion.
