HOMAGE TO IGNAZ FRIEDMAN
Mignon and the Harpist in Song Settings of the 19th Century
The Polish-Jewish pianist Ignaz Friedman (1882–1948) was one of the most significant virtuosos of the first half of the 19th century. The master student of Theodor Leschetizky in Vienna lived with his wife Marie von Shidlowsky, a great-granddaughter of the Russian national poet Leo Tolstoy, in the Friedman Villa in Seis am Schlern from 1930 to 1937. In 1939, he fled to Australia to escape the increasing repressions, where he continued his career under different circumstances.
The Tyrolean pianist Marlies Nussbaumer presents an evening in memory of the great pianist.
