Upon the passing of prominent individuals, solemn services with grand ceremonies were held: These funerals, which took place before a mourning structure and an empty coffin (cenotaph), served to glorify the deceased. Music was an integral part of this mourning spectacle. Leopold von Plawenn came from a South Tyrolean noble family based in the Upper Vinschgau, was born in Innsbruck in 1628, entered the Swabian Benedictine monastery of Zwiefalten, and died in 1682. His printed works were widespread throughout the southern German-Austrian region. The focus of this concert is a solemn requiem by Plawenn from the third volume of "Sacrae Nymphae duplicium aquarum" (Kempten 1672), a modern premiere.
