Music by Schubert, Huber, and Moran on Death and Burial
When the sound magician Rupert Huber composes a Geleit-Modem, it is sure to be a captivating and yet meditatively designed surprise. The second world premiere features music by his American soulmate Robert Moran. Moran has composed for a wide variety of ensembles in all sizes and beyond, as well as for instruments from all over the world. Old folk music from Styria inspired him just as much as the Gamelan music of Java or fragments by Richard Wagner. The title Waldfriedhofsmusik and the instrumentation promise a unique auditory experience.
The motto for the program comes from the Romantic poet Eichendorff, for "we still want to sing," despite the inevitable end of our existence. No one knew this better than Franz Schubert, whose strikingly harsh yet wonderfully comforting string quartet Death and the Maiden remains relevant like all his music. Death always wears new costumes, yet he remains the same. And the singing continues.
NOTE: The second part of the concert takes place in the Hofkirche. – No intermission
