Description

Roman Coins Tell

When Roman Coins Speak

Coins are primarily used for payment today. However, this was not always the case. Even today, coins from long ago tell stories of politics and economics, power relations and emperors, settlement history and cultic customs: Why were coins hidden, buried, and forgotten? What information can be discerned from the minting? How is the value of Aureus, Denarius, Sestertius, Dupondius, or As determined?

Size and weight, metal, minting, and find location help archaeologists read historical coins. Are you eager to listen to their stories?
