Description

Fasting Cloths in Tyrol – a Living Tradition

The custom of draping altars in churches with painted canvases, known as fasting cloths, during the 40-day Lent dates back to the Middle Ages.

In the tour, you will learn about the history of this tradition through two particularly valuable fasting cloths from the collection of the Tyrolean State Museums. Concepts of their conservation and storage will be presented.
