Destination, sports venue, recreational area, and place of remembrance: Today, Bergisel is worth a visit for many reasons. It naturally attracts a diverse array of people every day. It hasn't been long since the hill near Innsbruck's city center was made accessible to the public. With a historical album from the estate of Baron Heinrich von Roßbach, the Kaiserjägermuseum opens a window
to the past of Bergisel: letters, invitations, plans, shooting targets, result lists, and certificates, as well as watercolors depicting hunters of the imperial regiment during shooting exercises, represent this from a military perspective. However, these images also show walkers, children, and dogs enjoying the space around the shooting ranges and relaxing in the park.
The so-called "Rossbach Album" contains the history of the earliest shooting range at Bergisel in 46 pages. It was dedicated to the then regional defense commander of Tyrol, Baron von Roßbach (1790 – 1867), and serves as a unique historical document on the history of shooting ranges at Bergisel and the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger regiments.
Join us as we leaf through the historical album and accompany us back to the Biedermeier era, when Bergisel transformed from a place heavy with memories of war and commemoration to a popular spot for relaxation and entertainment—a change that is largely credited to Baron Heinrich von Roßbach.
